Day 8: It's a fricken mirage

Today we woke up in Normandy, spent the afternoon in Picardy and are going to bed in Ile de France! A triple region day was had by all!

The b&b- which didn't serve us dinner- called French bread and home made jam breakfast! However it was really quaint and the owners were super nice!

To our great disappointment, we realised that our calculations were wrong and today was not a 15 mile day but 19 miles! We struggled up hill after hill in the hot sun with not a cow in sight after leaving Normandy (how sad, we <3 nature)

We have decided to write to the guy who runs France to ask him to spread out the cow distribution along our road more evenly so we have more to look at.

It seems that the farmers chose today as the day to harvest all of their corn, making Leanne weep in a hay-fevery-blur as we walked through clouds of grain and dust!

Just over half way, we set our sights on a patch of trees at the end of a long long road, but an hour later realised that we had been hallucinating in the heat and the trees were a mirage getting further and further away!

We had a long lunch.

The second half of the day was somewhat slower, with everyone in pain and a few emotional moments with blisters splitting, hips and knees hurting and feet throbbing. As if a gift from heaven, Cola Callipo ice lollies appeared- this time it was not a mirage and we got the boost we needed to haul ourselves into tonight's hotel!

In a weird attempt to spice up our day, we decided to muster up out last bits of energy and perform our favourite gymnastic moves over the border to Marines (see pictures below)

We had dinner in the restaurant downstairs which was amazing- the best food we have had so far- and are now relaxing and catching up with the Olympics, rather shocked but excited that tomorrow is day nine!

Mood: Whingey

Power Songs:
Lady marmalade- thanks Leanne's mum!
Big brovers- favourite things (sound of music remix) - thanks Jenny's mum!

And guys, you know fricken was not the word used!

Emily, Jenny and Leanne! x
