Count the Kicks

When we decided that it would be the three of us fundraising, the first thing we began to think about is who we are going to raise money for. There are so many worthy charities out there- and so many we would have loved to include! We all wanted to pick one which meant something personally to us, then chose a fourth as a charity which we all wanted to support, too.
COUNT THE KICKS™ want to empower Mums with knowledge and confidence during their pregnancy.
We want to encourage Mums to work with their Midwives and healthcare providers to promote a healthy outcome. Empowering every Mum with the confidence to call for advice if she is ever worried at all and be confident that she will receive the best advice and monitoring from her healthcare provider.
As an aspiring midwife, when I stumbled across the Count the Kicks charity I knew that at some stage I wanted to support it. The work they do is really amazing and all the messages and comments of gratitude parents leave on their website are so moving but make it clear that their work is crucial.
Miscarriages and stillbirths have always been a taboo subject. Count the Kicks works to lessen the stigma that hangs around miscarriages because being able to talk about the health of your baby means these tragic events are less likely to happen. Women need to be confident that they know their babies and feel able to tell their midwife if they think that there is something wrong, because nobody knows how they feel better than themselves.
By the time I become a midwife (hopefully by 2015!) I hope to have helped to raise awareness, supported this crucial charity and already contributed to reducing the number of miscarriages and stillbirths in the UK.
